Shiny. That's what life looks like when you graduate from college, or university. No more of the barely post-adolecent fuzziness that was about when you finished high school. No. This time, you know where you were, you know where you are, and you know where you want to go. More or less, perhaps, but a lot more than at any other point in your life until then. This is the moment.

But when I look back, when I skip through the pictures of my classmates, which I collected for some reason and which they had taken after the ceremony, but before they got drunk, all I see is misguided enthusiasm based on confidence based on a paper-study, a paper reward. I saw it then (so I didn't go) and I see it now: the moment has yet to come.

That's the moment we all pass. The moment we realize that life did not quite turn out as we anticipated. The moment we realize that life is in control of us, and not, decidedly NOT, the other way around. Those two classmates of mine, in those graduation pictures, they are not real. They are figments of their own and society's imagination.

The moment they realize this, they become real.
Nobody takes pictures of that moment.
It is not valued the way it should be.

Some dude in our class did not attend the ceremony. He did not have his portrait taken after the speeches (before the fiesta, yeyeye). His mother cried. She did attend. His name was called. He did not come forward. We all thought he was being a jerk, or at least ungrateful. He missed out. This was a good moment. The end is important in all things.
