This week in Photo of the Week 157:

"Mondriaan in Brazil"

Jorge was considered a genius by some, and an ignorant oaf by others. Considering this equation might give you an idea of what people meant, on either side: An old boat is to an amphibian, what Mondriaan is to decoration

But actually, nobody knew why Jorge painted and named his boat as he did.

Another assumption people made - they thought they could hear Jorge's wife from a mile away:

'Jorge, you *****, why has that hull still not been overhauled, while you sit amongst your pretty colors? You think a dead artist is gonna pay our bills? When people wanna see a painting they go to museum. When they want a boat ride they get on a safe, well-maintained boat.'

Personally, I don't really care what all those people thought. I just hope that Jorge was caught in between (paint) jobs by our photographer, and that he and his boat will prosper and be with us for a long, long time to come.

Floating

third of a series of moving photographs with texts by Peter-Jan Vermeij

Photo sequence: Maarten Zeehandelaar

I was made to roam the rivers and lakes, and yes, why not, the seas and oceans of this wonderful world.
Yet I am tied down to the bottom of this bay.

The fact that I do not understand why this is continuously bugs me.

Is my destiny nothing but a figment of my imagination - a what-I-want-to-be instead of a what-I-am? Have I gotten what I needed, instead of what I wanted?
