It so happens that while I am preparing this weeks edition some Israeli soldiers are being persecuted by their own because they were caught on film dancing at a Palestinian party, fully armed even.

No matter how much I try to stick to my first associations about Henri Charrière, Papillon, butterflies and how this building does not look like it ever sees them, my mind keeps trailing back to those images which via the new media and then the conventional media appeared all over the world in the past few days.

The decision of those perfect strangers, strangers at war no less, to party together, is such a joy to behold, such a relief within that deeply rooted and utterly complicated conflict.

And it's not just the fact that they party. It is also how they do it: positively exuberant. The fun these people have overrules the indoctrination that goes on on either side.

I do so hope that one day, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will look like this building: a firm, rock-solid piece of history, visited only by those interested in history. Perched high upon some desolate rock, out beyond the surf of some coastline - a jail that no one wants to use anymore.
