He started out, eager to dwell in new territories, see new cities, meet new people, be engulfed by other cultures. Five years ago he left and nothing, absolutely nothing, could please him more than the idea the he had no idea when he would be coming back. Even at the start of his journey he already envisioned himself as one of those experienced, perpetually weary travelers whom he had met on short vacations here and there. In awe he had bought them beer and listened to their stories. Yes! He had soaked in their travel based wisdom - the best wisdom there is - and vowed to be one of them, some day.

Five years.
That day had not yet come.
And he knew it.
He had become something else.

Every jungle a jungle, every city a city, every sunset a sunset – none of it could charm him anymore. Everything was the same, wherever he went. Nothing was special anymore. He had not gained wisdom. He had lost the ability to see, to discern, to recognize, to enjoy.

On a hilltop above Rio de Janeiro, he stared at the scenery, and realized it was time to go home.
