For a moment there he thought about Joanne and the kids.
One day you will find out what kind of monster you've become.
Well, today was as good a day as any.
For the millionth time his friends had swiftly abandoned him in favour of their experience and a favourable wind. This meaning, that after a million times he still hadn't really mastered any true kite-surfing skills. So he didn't blame them for letting him fall behind.

Just that today, he wasn't going to follow them, like he always did.
Instead he manoeuvred to catch one of those strong winds which perpetually circled the island.
This was the plan: to disappear, to fall off the face of the earth.
In the process he would prove himself worthy of his kite, or not.
He knew about the islands behind this one, much further into the sea.
If he made it there, his life would start anew.
If he didn't, well, it wouldn't
