When I woke up I found that my wife had changed into an insect overnight, and a rather large one at that. She seemed content to just lie there under the covers, her stick-like limbs making the sheets appear like an improvised tent, so I got up and made us coffee. While I waited for the percolator I wondered if my wife would still want milk and sugar or that perhaps her altered state would have changed her preferences.
From upstairs I heard the sound of furniture being pushed about, heavy items falling on the floor. Then, my wife came down the stairs and seated herself precariously at the breakfast table. In her eyes I could see myself reflected a hundredfold as I put down her coffee before her. She tried to lift up the cup but only succeeded in sliding it off the table and sending it crashing to the floor. “Don’t worry, honey,” I said as I patted her head with its luxurious fur, “why don’t you stay in today and I’ll get the groceries. Okay?”
