I can’t help but wonder why the photographer chose this image. Who are these people? What’s their significance to him? And what’s their significance to each other; are they siblings, a music group posing, or just passers-by? Is there a reason for the bridge being there? Are these people connected to it in some way?
This might just be a brilliant pastiche on a tourist photo, its point that it deliberately poses these people against that background in an ironic way. But that would require a context, something that gives the irony away. Maybe it should have a title that emphasizes the point, like: Greetings from Rotterdam. Or is that too easy? Maybe it should be a series, with each photo adding to the irony: art imitates normal life.
