It took me a while to realise that this is a statue of Michael Jackson. Now, whenever I think about Michael Jackson, my mind automatically wanders to all the scandals he was involved in. My mind’s a library full of crap information like that. I wouldn’t be able to tell you the names of ten of his songs, but I can tell you he became addicted to painkillers after getting injured from having his hair catch on fire (Neil Young made a parody of the incident in his ‘This note’s for you’-video, incidentally). Of course there were the paedophilia charges that would pop up occasionally, the plastic surgery gone wrong, the weird chimpanzee thing, his marriage to the daughter of Elvis Presley that failed to rehabilitate him as a man. And the list goes on and on, but I’m just drawing from memory here to illustrate my point. Or points, rather, that A. my mind is indeed a library full of crap information, and B. that maybe some famous people are reduced to nothing more than the scandals they were involved in. And that’s sad, I guess, just like his life was just another sad story with exotic animals mixed in.
But hey, I didn’t even recognize him anymore. In fifty years nobody will know who the guy in the statue was.
