As a child I imagined that my breath could move the clouds across the horizon. I used to huff and puff like the big bad wolf, and slowly but surely the clouds would cross the big blue plain of my imagination. In the fall I would blow fierce storms across the sky, sending them to wreak their havoc on far off lands.
Maybe it was this youthful imagination that caused me to move to his city so close under heaven, where the clouds hang above the streets like foliage covering a forest road. There are days when the clouds sink so low I can touch them from my balcony. If I stand outside long enough the chill air settles into my clothes, making them damp with moisture. Together, my daughter and I huff and puff against the clouds. Our cheeks bulge and turn red from the effort. I will take her outside the city this fall and together we will blow fierce storms across the land.
