video of this week
A week ago I had the privilege to be present at a project photoshoot of a friend photographer,
Yulia de Andrade, and took that opportunity to make a 'behind-the-scenes' video of the session.

Hey you, model in concrete, why are you there? Why do you swing that piece of cloth around? Are you a dancer? A circus artiste? Will we gain some knowledge as to the where how why what of your photoshoot? I am afraid we have no such luck. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fine picture. The contrast of the white concrete and your clothes and the cloth, your fragility next to the thundering blocks, the strength of your legs seemingly as strong as those blocks. I see what the picture might be trying to do. I just don’t see why it should do that.

Somewhere in the spring I saw a video of a young woman, obviously a sports model with a body like your own, doing a work-out. Not in a gym, a field or a TV-studio. No the setting was a carefully constructed Ikea version of a household, a home. This home was a non-dirty mess (lots of stuff lying around but everything spotless and as shiny as new). A bunch of kids in the ages of 3 to 12 were running around in a most frantic energetic manner. They were an integral part of the work-out, whereby the makers of this clip tried to do battle with one of the great excuses to not work out: there is no space/time for my exercises here. Silly stuff, but I liked it anyway. It was very clear that it should be fun to start lifting my 2 year old, 34 pounds son above my head fifty times as daily exercise. And it is.

Now am I being a cultural Neanderthal comparing these photoshoots and their resulting videos? Or can I justifiably ask you, model in concrete, what you were doing there? Will you take me behind your scene, for real, faz favor?!
