How often do you get the chance to really look at another human being? Seriously. Doesn’t it happen to you, just as it happens to me, that you look at someone and that person becomes uncomfortable, sometimes even angry? There is something about the act of looking at someone that does that. It shows in our manner of speech, we size someone up, take the measure of a man. Essentially, we look so we can judge. I expect there’s an evolutionary component to that. Our ancestors had to be able to estimate if they should fight an enemy or run, they had to choose the partner that would give them the best children.
So, how often does someone let you take their measure, calm, smiling, and convinced that they will measure up? To be able to stand there like that, I think we need someone to look at us and be willing to see the best that we can be. We need someone who will bring that out in us. And that’s why we model Rio.
