This brings to mind one of those mindboggling realities of this day and age that jumps right at me every now and again. For some time now there has been a trend amongst bicycle designers to create vintage bikes that actually have no precedent. These bikes look like remakes of fifties models or forties models, but actually such models never existed in the forties and fifties. This means that the designers rely on our minds projecting the idea of vintage onto the bikes, based on various details that look the part (mechanical details in plain sight, thick wheels, selected colours, et cetera). And our minds, the unnerving bastards, instantly comply as if we have no free will, no mind of our own to see what’s what. Before long my mind will make me believe this is actually a bike-fossil. Why not? Given the right dosage of information, it can apparently make me believe anything.
