He looks down from the rocky outcrop onto the beach. The sand, his sand, gives in to the pressure of strange feet without putting up the least resistance. It doesn’t jump on the visitors or blinds them. The birds that sing for him try all the harder to impress the unwitting visitors with their songs. Such a shame, they don’t even stop to listen and the choir doesn’t notice, both humans and animals caught up in their vanity. Yes, these pink and frail humans with their skins so easily torn, their limbs that snap like twigs. So easy to hate, so hard not to admire for their sense of self-assuredness. It’s hard to find a spot they haven’t colonized yet, a spot like his.
He could just climb down and club them all to death, which would at least be satisfying. But that would only lead to more of them coming down here. Best to wait it out then, probably. Maybe tonight he can stretch out on his own beach again.
