There are rumours going around that there may be fake news circulating on the Internet. Apart from the fact if this is true at all, we at O Globo would like to ask you: what does it matter if your news is false or not? In this building, our hacks work in gruelling sixteen-hour shifts, typing out past, present and future news events in darkened offices. Maybe there is some semblance of reality in this constant stream of information. False gods trying to dodge taxes, cats being saved from trees, politicians philandering; if we write long enough we will strike true to the mark.
And every day you flip through the paper and sigh your sighs of relief that this does not resemble your world. You should see what the other guy’s reading next to you. He’s thinking just the same. And we do that for you, we lie worlds into existence to take the edge off yours. You should be fucking grateful that we don’t map out your tawdry little shitpile of a world, with its local supermarket, the Christian neighbours, and the mandatory once a month sex routine the whole suburb has fallen into. Thank us for showing you that the world is burning, or we’ll come to your town to report.
