You see how that tall building can grow as tall as it likes but it will still never see the mural? See how the stump on its back is not concerned with that fact at all and just tries to get its own peek over the wall? And don’t you just hate walls like this, no matter how nicely they have been decorated? Aren’t you also dying to see what’s behind it (just like that building on the other side is)? Could be, yet all of that, all that you see, all I just wrote, is a lie, a trompe-l'oeil if you will. For it is not a wall, but a huge warehouse that’s almost as wide as it is long. That office building is not nearly as close as it seems. And it isn’t as flat as it seems either. No stump on the back, but a copy, behind it, leaning the other way. I’ve been doing this for some time now, but it still amazes me how photography can surprise you with its own version of reality.
