So, for this one, I asked a friend because I got completely captivated by the extremely lit up Jesus in the top left corner. Only after he said something about commerce, expensiveness and tourism, it started to dawn upon me that there was something off about this image: it's missing a huge amount of lights, or so it seems. Actually, while the lights you can see draw a vast amount of viewer attention, the lights you can't see are disturbingly absent. Now I am not actually familiar with Rio by experience, so it might be that all those dark blotches in the photograph really don't have houses, offices, streets or roads, or at least non with streetlights or anyone home - but that seems very far fetched. It looks more like vast parts of the city are suffering from a power outage or something like that, and to be honest, that darkness feels a little creepy. While the photo itself seems rather beautiful to me, especially the shadow play on the bay,I can't help but wonder what is happening to all those in the dark, if any. So I return to Jesus on the hill and his led-light shine: while I am not a religious man I am still happy He watches over all those in the dark. And I hope they are safe.
