"In praise of Portuguese culture"

The Royal Cabinet for Portuguese Reading in Rio de Janreiro is called the
'Cathedral of Portuguese Culture' for a reason.

The building is nothing short of a structure that appraises the consumption and activation of dedicated intellectual work.
A real celebration of culture written.
Which is, of course, one of the few effective ways the Portuguese had in the 19th century to bring along their cultural heritage: books.

This library came to be the center-piece to honour and in some way continue that heritage.
A kind of community-center for the home-sick immigrant refugees at the time.
With over 350.000 volumes it holds the biggest collection of books by Portuguese writers outside of Portugal.
